Work, Who Needs It?
We all do, it's the foundation for "life skills". Genesis 2:15 reveals before the fall of mankind, God took Adam and placed him in the beautiful Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. When time came for Adam and Eve's punishment for their disobedience, Scripture says God cursed the ground so Adam (mankind thereafter) must toil to eat and live.
Mankind was designed to work. Even in the perfect world as God made it, work was necessary for man's good. The ideal world is not one of idleness or full-time frolic but rather serious industry and service.
It's every parent's responsibility to instruct their children how to work according to God's purpose. When you start to teach children at a young age about their god-given roles you'll give them a jump start to a clear vision for life's purpose.
Raymond Moore, author of Home-Style Teaching, once wrote... Work is a blessing that has come to be viewed by modern youngsters as a curse. Productive manual work, when done with parents and when combined with voluntary service at home or for neighbors or others, become a great healer. This combination builds self-worth as the child feels needed and depended upon. And it is probably the greatest healer for burnout and the surest therapy for the social cancer of peer dependency."
We see it in our culture today, parents not starting early enough to train their children to work within their home. In result they find their children avoiding responsibilities and causing friction when daily task are due. How do we teach the nobility of work? We start them young with daily chores. We give them praise for a job done at the best of their ability. If the younger years are gone, then as parents we need to inspire them with a vision ~ a family industry.
Work and service to others build initiative, industry, integrity, order, and dependability. These much needed qualities are not learned from simply reading academic books but rather are gained from chores and industries done with parents. Help your children advance. Start young. Create a family vision of industry. Begin today.
