Felt Story Teacher’s Script:

Setting of Bible Account: In the town of Bethlehem in Judaea. Possibly in B.C. 5 (We suggest using two flannel boards for telling this Biblical account. Start with the City Street board as you read verses 1 & 5)

1 It came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. This taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. All went to be taxed every one into his own city.

4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, (Place felt figure #21 – Man facing left; felt object #154 - Donkey; and felt figure #103 – Woman facing left) into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David. He took with him to be taxed Mary his espoused wife, for she was great with child.

(Remove City Street flannel board and replace with either solid blue or Water and Sky board. Place Hill Side overlay on felt board to give you a countryside scene. Add cave overlay to the left side of the flannel board.)

6 And so it was that while they were there, (Add felt figures in cave overlay: #21 – Man facing left; felt animal #154 - Donkey; felt object #233 – bench; and felt figure #103 – Woman facing left on bench) the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son (Place felt figure #103a – Baby in arms on felt #103), wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger (Remove felt figure #103a; and add felt object #238 - Manger and #111 – Baby) because there was no room for them in the inn.

That very night, an angel announces it to shepherds.

8 There were in the same country shepherds (Place felt figure #89 – Men facing right) abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (Place felt animals #126 – Sheep facing left and #127 – Sheep facing right)

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, (Place felt figure #9Angel facing left) the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid.

10 The angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. This shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 Suddenly, (Place felt figures #10 – 5 angels in the distance) there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, (Remove felt figures # 10 and #9) the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. (Remove felt figures #89)

16 They came with haste, (Place felt figure set #89A – 3 Shepherds knelling in close to cave overlay) and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 The shepherds returned, (Remove felt figure #89A and place felt figure #89 near sheep) glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
