Three Old Testament
Messianic Prophecies
Fulfilled and Point to Jesus
Aim of Lesson:
To learn that the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament abound with the
promise that the Christ would be born as a descendant of King David.

We have been learning in the
New Testament the biblical account of Jesus Christ. Before we go on, we need to
understand that there were at least 300 places in the Old Testament where men
of God predicted events of which Jesus would be involved. We are going to learn
of 3 Old Testament prophecies today.
These are usually called
Messianic prophecies or predictions of the Messiah and His work. They were
written hundreds of years before Jesus came into the world. When we read
Messianic prophecies and then read their New Testament fulfillment our faith in
Jesus becomes strengthened.
The Seed of the Woman
Let’s start with the very
first one in the Bible. Can anyone tell me where the first Messianic prophecy
might be found? In Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament. (Have a child
point to the Genesis felt)
In
the New Testament (place “Books of the
Gospels” felts on the right side of flannel board), Luke told us in 1:34-35
of Mary’s conversation with the angel ~ (Have a child point to the Book of
Luke)
When
sin had entered Adam and Eve’s life, (place felt figure #13 – Adam facing right in skins and felt figure #93 – Eve on the left side of the
flannel board) God promised that through the “seed of the woman” (place felt
figure #111 - Baby in middle of
flannel board) sin would someday be overcome. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin
(place felt object #233 – Bench;
felt figure set #103 – Woman sitting
& 103 – Baby in cloth) this is what is implied in the promise of the
“seed of the woman” bruising the head of the serpent.
Jesus
Christ willingly died (add felt figure #69
– Man on the cross) to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. In His
resurrection, (place felt object #220 –
Cave and stone; and #3a – Man in white on flannel board) Jesus destroyed
“him” who had the power of death. Can you tell me who the “him” is? (Place felt
figure #11 – the devil) Yes, the
devil. Jesus destroyed the devil’s power
and lordship over mankind by His resurrection, proving He is the Son of God.
When we believe in Jesus’ birth (point to felt #103), death (point to felt
#69), and resurrection (point to felt #3a) we are turning unto God’s way for
salvation. There is no other way, we must believe and obey Jesus Christ. For He
loves us, so very much!
The House of David
(Remove all felts and start
with solid blue flannel board and the “Books
of History” 2 Samuel felt and the four Gospels.)
In the many years between
King David’s life (place felt figure #41
– King on left side of flannel board, indicating his life was lived in the
Old Testament) and the birth of Jesus (place felt figure set #103 – Woman sitting & 103 – Baby in
cloth on the right side of the flannel board, giving your children a
timeline visual). Messianic prophecies were told with the promise that Jesus
would be born from the descendants of King David. In 2 Samuel (Have a child
point to the Book of 2 Samuel.) we find a verse which promises after King David
dies God will set up His kingdom forever through King David’s seed.
In 2 Samuel 7:12, God said…
“I will set up thy seed after thee”; there are two meanings to this. First, it
refers to Solomon (place felt figure #72
- King sitting on throne), but in such a way that it includes also the
whole royal line. Second it refers to Jesus, (point to felts 103) which is also
the son of David according to the flesh. We find this true in Joseph (place
felt figure #20b – Carpenter man in
middle of flannel board) being the house and lineage of David and the complete
fulfillment of this prophecy can only be in Christ's everlasting kingdom.
O’ Little Town of
(Remove all felts and start

of the Minor Prophets” felt and the books of the Four Gospels.)
"But you, Bethlehem
Ephrathah, (place felt object #203 –
Houses, #220 Cave and #177 Star of Bethlehem) though you are little among
the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be
Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting."
Micah 5:2. Bethlehem Ephrath, or Ephratah, was another name for the little town
of
The prophet Micah (place felt
figure #79 - Man on top of the books
of Minor Prophets) predicted this hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Can
you tell me in what town Jesus was born in? Yes,
So,
we’ve learned of three Old Testament Messianic prophecies: Christ would come
from the “Seed of the Woman” (place felt figure set #233 – Bench; #103 – Woman sitting &
103 – Baby in cloth, under the four Gospel books), from the “House of
David” (place felt figure #41 – King place under the Minor Prophet books), and be born in the
“Little Town of Bethlehem” (point to felt figures #203, & #220). In the
last six felt stories we’ve heard, we have learned of all three Messianic
prophecies have come true. Remember children, God’s Word is always true.
